So we have had a little more excitement. . . as if there isn't enough lately. So Devin got sick a couple weeks ago with a cold. I didn't think too much of it for the first two or three days, but his eyes were super gunky (if that's a word?) and his nose was running green. Quinn was the same, so I took them to see our Dr. Judy on Thursday January 27. He confirmed that it was a head cold that both boys had, but gave me some eye drops for their eyes and some amoxicillin for Devin because he had an ear ache too. So I gave the boys their medicine for a good four days, but then Devin got a rash and hives on Sunday so I got worried and stopped the amoxicillin for Tuesday to see if he was allergic to his meds. Well the eye drops worked and the boys' eyes cleared up great by Tuesday morning. Well Devin got a red right eye on Wednesday, but I gave him the amoxicillin again by then. Thursday, I took the boys to daycare at Lisa's and asked Lisa about Dev's eye if it was pink eye. She said it was so I called Shane and he stayed home with Devin all day Thursday.
Well, I get home from work on Thursday and Shane says Devin has had a fever throughout the day of 102 or less. Thursday night his fever got up to 104. I gave him some medicine but he threw it up and got a bloody nose-- I was thinking he was dehydrated. He took some more medicine and went back to sleep. I had to work Friday morning and then we were going to take off to Logan for the Superbowl weekend. I get home at 12:30 PM and Shane says we might need to go to the clinic because Dev's temperature is 107. I check his temperature tight away and it is 105.7, so I put him in a cool bath where he pees and throws-up but has to stay in it anyway. He takes some medicine to get out of the tub and we take him to our clinic. Dr. Rex looks at him and checks his white blood cell count and it was at 28,000. We were sent directly over to Gunnison.
We got to Gunnison and Dr. Pratt looks over Devin. We tell him all that has been going on. Devin gets a chest x-ray where they strap him into a seat that pins his arms above his head. He didn't like that too well. Come to find out he had Bronchial Pneumonia. We move into a room to stay the night. Devin was hooked up to an IV, but bent it in the process. So about an hour and a half later he had to get the IV moved. The nurses poked him with a needle about ten times in all with the IV and the blood they had to take. Poor little guy. But he endured it all quite well considering. Devin is horrible at taking medicine. He gags and throws-up everything if forced to take, so the way I got him to take his meds at the hospital was telling him the nurse would leave if he drank it. He would then do it at once. I have to do something to get him to comply.
We only stayed a day and got home Saturday afternoon; much sooner than we expected. His white blood cell count was down to 13,000 so Dr. Judy released us around 12:30 PM. All day Sunday we stayed home to take care of Dev. He had a fever of about 102 all day, but would decline with medicine. Once the meds wore off it was back to 102. Then at about 4:30 AM I checked his temperature and it was 104.5. I am so mad that this wont go away. I finally asked Shane to give him a blessing. I hope that does the trick. I cannot sleep to save me life so I thought I would put my thoughts on paper. Now it is about 6:15 AM and I am going to workout, because I haven't been able to do that since Thursday. I will call Dr. Judy today to see what he wants me to do. I hope my son gets well soon and that we can get on top of these issues.
